David Ponraj

David Ponraj is the founder and chief executive officer of Economic Impact Catalyst (EIC), where he and his colleagues are reimagining innovation- and entrepreneurship-driven economic development and growth.  EIC, founded in 2018, works with hundreds of economic development agencies across the country and world, empowering communities by providing tools to new and small businesses to manage their participation in government economic development programs like the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), the American Rescue Plan, and Build Back Better.  EIC’s Startup Space platform applies advanced technologies like AI and predictive analytics to grant management, education and training, mentorship resources, fund raising, and technical assistance of all kinds to achieve greater efficiency, faster development, and greater community impact.  EIC has worked with more than 50,000 new and small businesses across 35 states and around the world.

As a first-generation immigrant, David experienced first-hand the challenges and sacrifices that pursuit of the American Dream entails.  This formative experience instilled in him a passion for empowering entrepreneurs – particularly those from under-represented backgrounds – to use technology to overcome barriers and achieve economic success.  As a career technologist, David also understands a wide range of emerging technologies – including advanced computing, machine learning, and AI – and their implications for economic growth and opportunity.  And as a repeat entrepreneur, David understands the requirements of entrepreneurial success.

David is the host of Breaking Down Barriers Podcast, on which he showcases the work of the frontline heroes of entrepreneurship-led community development.  The podcast aims to inspire and inform listeners about both the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship and economic development.

David serves on the board of directors of the Helen Gordon Davis Centre for Women, a nonprofit organization that empowers women to achieve their personal and professional goals.  He became a member of CAE’s Entrepreneurs Council in September of 2024.  David holds a BS in physics from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, India, a BA in international business from St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, FL, and an MBA from the University of South Florida.
